October GlossyBox products review
*jump straight to the reviews if you don't want to read my rant*
I know I'm very late with this review, but I actually missed the parcel because I was away on holiday. That wasn't the worst bit. My postie wrote the wrong tracking number down (it was missing a digit) on the "While You Were Away" card! Without the right number, how on earth was I supposed to request for re-delivery?! They'd never find my parcel in their giant warehouse!
I called Royal Mail and they assured me they would redeliver it anyway. I waited some more and of course my parcel didn't arrive. How could it when they didn't even know which parcel was mine?! I got really annoyed and tweeted Royal Mail. The customer service people manning Royal Mail's twitter account were amazing. They were helpful, polite and apologetic. They followed up with an email and after a couple of days, my parcel finally arrived. I don't know how you did it, but thank you Royal Mail twitter-ers!
*end rant*
GlossyBox is 6 months old and to celebrate, they decided to reward us with something extra in the October GlossyBox. They included a 6th product (the boxes usually promise 5) and an extra gift (make up bag). They counted all 3 perfume samples as 1, but if you really take in everything, there were really 9 items in the box! Nice!
Let's have a closer look at the goodies in the October GlossyBox.
STILA Moray; ROBERT PIGUET Fracas, Visa and Calypso
LEIGHTON DENNY Sex Kitten; DERMALOGICA Renewal Lip Complex
DERMALOGICA MultiVitamin Thermafoliant; DERMALOGICA MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque
*Bonus item*
Dermalogica make up bag
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof eyeliner in Moray:
I'll start off by saying I had trouble with the stick itself. At first, I couldn't seem to twist the eyeliner up. Then after about 10 twists, it worked, but then it wouldn't go down again! There seems to be something wrong with the mechanism as it looks like it's quite stuck.
Other than that, I love this automatic eyeliner pencil (read, convenient). It glides on so smoothly and is super pigmented. After taking the pic above, I ran my hand under warm water, but it didn't fade at all. I had to give it a good rub before it came off. It's definitely waterproof and did last for a long time without fading. I wore this on a night out and it looked the same at the end of the night. I didn't have to reapply at all. Thumbs up!
I'm actually quite impressed with it except it's not a colour I'd normally use (ok, I'm boring and only use black). Hopefully this is the only one with the faulty mechanism as I might just purchase the black version, Stingray.
Robert Piguet Fracas, Visa and Calypso:
I admit I didn't try any of these, not even a whiff. The reason being I think I've got enough perfume samples to last me for quite awhile, so I'll be giving these away.
Leighton Denny Sex Kitten:
An odd name for a colour like that, I thought.
I'm not a fan of this, to be honest. Not really liking the frosty metallic blue colour. The texture is quite thick, so it's a little streaky. I actually prefer nail polishes with a thick texture, but even I found this a little hard to apply evenly. 1 coat is too sheer, so you definitely need about 2 or 3 coats (I've 2 coats on in the pic above).
Dermalogica MultiVitamin Thermafoliant:
A powerful thermal skin polisher that combines physical and chemical exfoliants
Directions: After cleansing, gently rub the thermafoliant on skin for 1-2 minutes. Rinse thoroughly. Use twice a week on damp skin. The tube recommends to use it on dry skin for better results, but I personally wouldn't recommend doing that.
First off, I have to say I'm not too keen on the smell. I don't know how to describe it, but the closest I can think of is medicinal ointment.
I did a skin test on my cheek the first time I used it just to make sure it wouldn't irritate my skin. After making sure my skin was okay, I started using it on my entire face. It does get a little bit warm upon application, but the warmth only lasts for mere seconds. The thermafoliant is quite thick when squeezed out of the tube, but spreads easily. It's not abrasive, but I can certainly feel tiny bits of exfoliants. I tried to use it when my skin was dry, but it felt too harsh, so I wouldn't recommend doing that especially if you have dry skin.
Results were great! My skin felt very clean after the polish and was also much smoother. I don't think it would magically remove blackheads (I would prefer if my exfoliating products could do that) or anything, but it did give my skin a good buff.
However, the smell and the price of this puts me off slightly.
Dermalogica MultiVitamin Power Recovery Masque:
A powerful masque of concentrated antioxidant vitamins to help skin recover and regenerate
Direction: After cleansing, apply on dry face. Leave on for 10-15 minutes. Rinse thoroughly with warm water. Use twice a week.
Like the thermafoliant, I don't really like the smell of this. It smelt like...cream (sorry for the lame description).
The first time I used it on my cheek as a skin test, I didn't feel any significant difference. However, after using it a couple more times, it did leave my skin feeling hydrated and was soft to the touch. I always woke up the next morning to super soft and smooth skin.
The mask is of a thick, creamy texture and spreads easily. Once you start spreading it, it becomes colourless so at least you wouldn't scare friends/family with a mask on your face.
The main problem I find with this is that it's a hassle to use because I have to rinse it off and much prefer using my sheet masks. That said, I'm very impressed with the results. Maybe when I'm not so broke and lazy, I'd invest in one.
Dermalogica Renewal Lip Complex:
A daily treatment that restores the delicate lip tissue
I love the smell of this! It smells like sweets! It has a rather thick consistency, but spreads easily and evenly on my lips. It does an amazing job of moisturizing my lips. It does feel a little greasy on the lips, though. It's a bit like Vaseline.
I like to wear this on its own, but on days I use lipstick, I apply this first to moisturize my lips, then apply lipstick so it's not so drying.
All in all, I think the October GlossyBox was a win for me mainly because of the Dermalogica products. I know many people hail Dermalogica products as their HG and I really can see why.
This GlossyBox was gifted to me for review purposes

ReplyDeleteAhhh there's some nice bits in this one! I think the dermatologica samples defo make it worth it! Ive never tried it but have heard of girls loving it :) (its so expensive isn't it ><)
And it sucks about the stila pencil being stuck!!!
Yeah that polish is a weird colour to be called sex kitten...I expected it to be called like...I don't know, something frosty and cold.
have you tried BeautyFix... they give full sized packages and its 1 package for a quarter.... I just got my 1st order and the contents are fab.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling a little iffy on the nail polish, too. I like the color, but you can see the streaks when you look a little harder, and I haaaaate streaky polish.
ReplyDeleteDon't you despise the post office, sometimes? I always assume that they run on my time. Then, I have to remember that the world doesn't revolve around me ...
