Down to Earth

Down to Earth contacted me about a month ago to ask if I'd like to review some of their products. I checked out their website and was instantly attracted because all their products are made from 100% natural ingredients. Their products do NOT contain parabens, silicones, formaldehyde and other chemicals which can be bad for us, but instead, they use natural alternatives.

If you have a moment, I highly suggest reading their FAQs page*click*. It is super informative and I've definitely learned a lot about natural/organic products or those that claim to be.

You'll also be glad to know that Down to Earth's products are Cruelty Free and Fair Trade.

I selected a couple of items from their website and tried them out the minute I received them. Here's my review after 3 weeks.

Bug Shield Lotion
Pros:
This works very well! Since returning to Malaysia, I've been bitten countless times by evil mosquitoes and have the scars to show (yes, I don't know why I scar easily since coming back from the UK). After applying this, I have not had a single mosquito bite. You may argue it's a coincidence, but I've not changed anything else. I still stay in the same house (sit in the same places and sleep on the same bed), so the only thing I can attribute the sudden disinterest of mosquitoes is to this Bug Shield Lotion.

Cons:
It smells really strongly of insect repellent which is a bit of a turn off, but I suppose if you only apply it at home that should be okay. Or if you want to wear it out as a man repellent, that'd be pretty good, too #lamejoke

All Natural Feminine Wash
This smells really pleasant.
It's also very gentle.

All Natural Hydrating Lotion
Pros:
This smells like sweeties!
It does what it promises in terms of providing moisture.
Absorbs quickly into skin and doesn't leave a sticky feeling.

Cons:
The smell, while sweet, is a bit too strong. I applied this in the office (just on my hands) and the smell was a little too overwhelming.

Goat's Milk and Cocoa Body Butter - Unscented
Pros:
It goes on like butter and is very moisturizing. My skin always feels super smooth the next day.
It also doesn't leave a sticky feeling.

Cons:
None!

All Natural Tinted Lip Balm - Island Kiss
Pros:
My current favourite lip balm.
The tinted red is just the right shade for me, not too dark.
I wear this to work every day and it provides really good moisture. The best part is, it's non-greasy!

Cons:
None!

For Malaysians, you're entitled to Free Shipping on orders of 3 items or more. All prices are extremely reasonable.

  6. Yes, in fact they have been selling in the USA for much longer than they have here in Malaysia. Check out https://www.facebook.com/pages/Simply-Pure/258483044209589?ref=ts as a supplier of the same range of products.  I hope this helps! :)

  7. Thank you so much for taking the time to review the products.  I did actually appreciate the 'man repellent' joke somewhat... Having said that, if it works on mosquitoes, I guess that's all most people can ask for.  Having suffered through a week-long episode of dengue in the past, I have a new found appreciation for insect repellents that work and I love sharing this discovery with mummies of little kids, especially.  I hope you agree when I say that the smell on the Bug Shield is more of a lemongrass/citronella smell.  That's what's in it (ONLY natural fragrance), and that's what can guarantee the mozzies stay clear away.  I have to admit I am not a huge fan of lemongrass scents myself, but lots of people here in Malaysia are!  They have come up to us specifically looking for products that smell of lemongrass.  To each their own I guess.

As for the hydrating lotion, yes, there is definitely a noticeable fragrance, but we dont use phthalates in the formula, so it wont cling to your skin.  Instead, it will naturally dissipate, just like all natural fragrances are meant to do.

This range of products is different, because they work really well, because of the price and because of the HEART that goes behind it.  This range was actually designed to help the poorest Asian farmers.  We teach them to grow high value crops and make the most of their land so that they get their families out of poverty.  Instead of growing rice year after year, we teach them to grow avocado, chocolate, lemongrass, so that they make more money from their land. We buy their produce at market value or higher so they can live a life of dignity.  We keep our margins low by choice because we want everyone to afford it, not just the high income group.  That's the way we can make a true difference - in the lives of the poor Asian farmers, and in the lives of the average family.

We are so glad and so proud that you had a generally positive experience with our products. We hope we can soon add you to our long list of satisfied customers!  We look forward to serving you and your loyal readers very soon.  The products can be easily purchased online at www.downtoearth.com.my and just like you've already written, we'll happily ship by courier for free anywhere in Malaysia for any orders of 3 items or more.

Thank you again. We appreciate your honest feedback on the products.

  8. You got me with the first paragraph. I love all natural products! Everything you got is extremely attractive and as someone who hates getting bit.. I think I'd take the bug repellent even with the strong scent!
The lip balm looks loooovely as well.

You are making your blog more of a marketting site by doing so much advertising for god knows what all things in return! Seriously! This is meant to be a clothes blog and not some god damn stupid things review! Ofcourse you will love them cause you are like marketting them! Please stop these. Takes away the niceness of your blog!

  10. Really? Have I been doing a lot of advertorials? I always put a clear Disclaimer if the items were gifted. If you don't see the disclaimer, you can safely assume I bought the products with my own money.
All reviews are written based on my own honest opinions regardless whether or not the products were sponsored.
Your statement "Ofcourse you will love them cause you are like marketting them!". Well, like, I find you rather presumptuous cause, like, I don't LOVE all the products I'm gifted for reviewing purposes. If you, like, read through my older posts (just off the top of my head, I remember some GlossyBox products I wasn't too keen about), you'd find that I always genuinely state the products I like, the ones I find so-so and the ones I totally regret having.

Perhaps you are also confused with my own reviews (not sponsored) which I view as a way of sharing (like the last few masks posts, for example) with my readers on the products I've tried. I'm not sure when you started reading, but I actually did a survey during one of my giveaways and one of the many suggestions I received was to do more product reviews. So I thought, why not?

However, you're right on one point being that this blog started out as an everyday outfits blog. I do apologize about deviating, but life has been so different since I came back and I have other priorities now. I no longer have the time for consistent outfit posts. Yes, it is rubbish of me, but I do hope part of the reason you started reading this blog was to know more about me, as a person. To read about my everyday life (which is in fact, another highly voted suggestion from my readers).

If, however, you really can't be bothered about lil ol' me and just came for pretty clothes and things, I suggest you visit other much better fashion blogs out there :)

  12. I highly recommend the bug shield!
And the lip balm is super moisturizing

  13. Ah, I once had a dengue-scare and was hospitalized with drips. It certainly isn't a very pleasant experience. That's why I really, really am glad I got to try out your bug shield.
You're right about the smell, it's very sharp and I couldn't place it, but lemongrass would be right. The smell is too strong for me, but yes, this is just my personal opinion and I'm sure plenty of other people like it :)

It was a pleasure working with you
